The Big Wadge is a collection of insane ramblings and cultural musings from writer Peter Davidson. A collection of art. poetry, comedy and music that has tickled his fancy or disturbed his dreams.

MUSIC - Play Beatle.
I saw Paul McCartney at the weekend at the RDS. Complete with his great drummer, one of the coolest guys ever, and his backing band of Blondie McHorsington and Lanky McBrunette. The Frog Chorus was not played. Good times where had by all.
COMEDY - Gay Beatle.
Here is comedian Demetri Martin being his excellent self. Surrendered a lot of revision to watching 'Important things with Demetri Martin.' Still think I'm the best man.

POETRY - When You Are Old
WHEN YOU ARE OLD
WHEN you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
By William Butler Yeats
MUSIC - Townes Dando Style
Yes, they're still going. Yes, this is from the last album. Yes, it's another great cover. This time of a Townes van Zandt song. Effortlessly great.

MUSIC - Glory Random Day.
What I've kept with me
And what I've thrown away
And where the hell I've ended up
On this glory random day
Were the things I really cared about
Just left along the way
For being too pent up and proud.
POETRY - Still Hopeful
"Hope" is the thing with feathers
"Hope" is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—
And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—
I've heard it in the chillest land—
And on the strangest Sea—
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me.

MUSIC - Something New
Ah Jools Holland, for all your doo-wop doohickery and crickety soul star arse licking you do have a tendency to have some quite good artists on. This singer songwriter impressed me mightily and also I had never heard of them before he strummed his way to the mic. I like it.

MOVIES - All the Wright Moves.
Edgar Wright goes 'hollyyywooooodddd' with 'Scott Pilgrim Vs the World.' Visually this already looks quite spectacular but I wonder how the script will hold up without Simon Pegg. That's a minor concern. Of course I'm going to see this. It doesn't even bare questioning.
POETRY - Identikit
Some towns all look the same in the rain,
the travel, the battle, the end result.
Grey buildings blend seamlessly to the grey sky,
blurred and merged with the cascading droplets.
Somewhere that took so long to reach
Is abandoned for quick shelter.
Some times identikit.
No matter how far apart.
This weather absorbs you
Just as the rain permeates your skin
Just as it coats the buildings in drab mundanity.
Some times all towns look the same
And change you to feel it too.

COMEDY - Webisodes
New 'Love the Concept' webisodes coming soon. Eight of them to be exact that will be slowly edited and released like an elephant farting truth bombs into the concious world.
Here are some glimpses of the first one;
VARIOUS - Parenting Fail.
I'm not very good at being an adult. Sitting beside me as I type I have a talking Yoda figure holding a Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver. And I really should brush my teeth and hair today. But not my hairy teeth, I'm not that bad yet. But no matter how bad I am at being an adult I still feel much better than those of us out there, the ones with responsibility and who still end up doing this...
MUSIC - The Passing Sparkle
Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse passed away recently. What with the death of Vic Chesnutt, Jay Reatard, this and the recent death of Alex Chilton from Big Star it's been a very bad year so far for cult singers. All of the above artists inspired and left a huge imprint on a number of people and so it's best to celebrate some of their great works. So here is the wonderful 'little fat baby's' taken from Sparklehorses's 'It's A Wonderful Life' album.

VARIOUS - Butt Pug
Pug's aren't the prettiest of pets. It must be difficult spending your life looking like a furry Peter Lorre pressed against some glass. Though I will forgive them a million ugly points for the following photos. These pics are the work of people with too much free time on the hands and is proof positive that we all need too much free time on our hands so we can all reach these levels of greatness.
MUSIC - It's Raining Glen, Hallelujah
1,2,3... and you're back in the room!
So here we go after along impasse with a song by The Swell Season, very much a Van inspired one this with horns and a 'you got to come up, gotta come up' that you can almost imagine the gruff cantankerous fecker himself singing.
Simple idea for a video too but works so well.

VARIOUS - Take that Deputy Stagg!
My posts haven't been up to date of late so here i go with an important moment in the past few months, if not the entire history, of the Irish parliament.
POETRY - Counting Sheep.
Cracks in the painting
Of the wall that supports,
splinters in the frame,
the door expands with the changes,
sits ajar,
is no longer a fortress
is no longer safe.
We lie here, with one eye open.
with thoughts clouded
with dreams held at bay.
Knowing that the breeze can blow this all away.
Yet still we hold,
for warmth, for cover,
for leverage,
And count the cracks in the paint work
as if trying to count sheep.
P Davidson. 03/02/10
MUSIC - Vespertine
I go through all this
Before you wake up
So I can feel happier
To be safe up here with you
